“Tone Down” by Maii Fallara is a homosexual rebellion against the heteronormative ideals viewing us as abnormal as a monster. It’s an acceptance of the wounds given to us through generational ignorance and accepting the body and soul given to us. We were born this way. I was born this way. It’s accepting the insecurities and the imperfections of the monster within. We will not “Tone Down,” nor will we change for anyone. If anything, we will tone upwards, endlessly and vibrantly. We have addictions that fill the void of our mommy and daddy issues, our societal looks and judgement of disgust, but those addictions do not make us monsters. We all have something that we are addicted to. We are humans. Whether that is candy, wine, or sex, we all have something that helps us cling to life and hope. Our addiction is a flaw but only 1% of our entirety. We are entities that accept the monster within, we are queers, and we are beautiful. We are not abominations. We were just born this way.
